Cathleen Smith, CALA, CDP, CHHA is the Chief Operations Officer of 1st Choice Home Care. She is a firm believer that you are only as good as the team you have in place.
Always one to accept a challenge, Cathleen early on earned her license from the Division of Gaming Enforcement and later worked in the Legal Profession assisting with high-level crimes, surveillance and gaming enforcement. While rewarding, Cathleen always felt a "higher calling" and sought to enter the healthcare field.
Cathleen has spent the better part of her professional career in roles centered around "helping others." Cathleen held several positions in various Senior Living Communities both on staff, as well as roles as a Director of Recreation and Administrator. As a Certified Assisted Living Administrator she oversaw the direct care and operations of a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in Ocean County as the Director of Resident Services. During this time, Cathleen pursued her passion of helping the Senior Community by futhering her education and obtained certification as a Certified Dementia Practitioner as well as taking a "hands-on" role as a Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA).
"It’s all about working together with your aides, families, clients and other professionals" Cathleen states. Cathleen started 1st Choice Home Care, LLC in 2006 with an experienced and dedicated team. Her personal motto, “Keep Calm and Carry On”, applies to everyone, particularly those surrounding her efforts at 1st Choice Home Care. "It's such a simple phrase, and yet, it truly can help you get through every day in your life if you think about it." Cathleen’s varied interests include; music, cooking, gardening, painting and volunteering with the care of animals including her own pride-and-joy, Sepp.
Those who know Cathleen know she will go above and beyond to help someone in need. Her clients know this as she is more than an Executive Officer; Cathleen is often found assiting her aides and clients during the middle of the night, on weekends and holidays. "We work for people, and there is no time-clock that ends our obligations. Being the Director of Operations, I would be doing a disservice to our clients and staff if I weren't willing to be there when they need me most."
